The next Ubuntu release Gutsy comes with a new xdg-user-dirs tool which manage “well known” user directories like the Desktop, Documents, Downloads and the Music folders.
This folders have to be recognizable among those others inside the the home directory. So I just thought I’ll give it a shot, and created this folders with carved emblems. I used original folder icons from Ubuntu Human theme.
This is my first attempt, so lets call it “alpha-release” 🙂
I want to hear some feedback from you, so feel free to comment or contact me.

как для первой попытки, очень хорошо, очень и очень (вспоминаю свои первые нарисованные иконки)
НО на мой взгляд:
– серые пиктограммы на оранжевом не очень контрастны;
– альтернативная иконка для pictures более приемлима, мне кажется, чем basic, с несовсем напоминающей картинки, пиктограммой;
– и не понимаю связь пиктограммы убегающего человека с “public”..

I tried already to make them dark orange, but the smaller the icons the less you can recognize them.

The symbols are good, except for pictures and public.
The idea for pictures is ok, but the rotated sheet isn’t clearly recognizable as such, but rather looks like a triangle above a rectangle with a funky right side.
The running man for Public – I just don’t get it.
I think you should fill the symbols with colour to make them more recognizable. You can simulate bad eyesight / bad viewing conditions by squinting your eyes. Doing so you should notice that the line drawings just disappear.

Отличные иконки, есть правда пара замечаний:
– Серый цвет на оранжевом фоне это совсем не контрастно, плохо будет восприниматся (приходится всматриватся в иконку чтобы ее понять).
– альтернативная иконка для “Pictures” намного понятнее чем basic вариант.
– иконка “Videos”: может чуточку поуже нарисовать пленку, она тем самым не будет почти вплотную лепится к краю папки.
– насчет “Public” есть 2 идеи:
– открытый навесной (амбарный) замок (навроде “заходи кто хочет”)
– приоткрытая дверь (ассоциация как у предыдущего варианта)
